Huawei P10 and P10 Plus review: Battery life & Software

In regards to battery lifetime, both the P10 and P10 Plus excelled. Within our first test using our custom Andro Mithdick battery testing program, we projected that the P10 Plus, having its 3,750mAh cell, could get six hours of screen-on period under average usage. Josh discovered that even with his more heavy usage habits, that contained plenty of music playback, Jade Empire and YouTube viewing on very top of mails and general messaging, which he was regularly spat out five hrs of screen-on moment.

On the P10 with its 3,200mAh battery, our custom made battery evaluation called only over five and a half hours of screen-on time and I had similarly impressive results to Yedi, managing to regularly eke out at least five hours screen-on period because of the P10's lower resolution screen. Unlike some preceding P series phones, you should not find yourself scrounging around for a charger mid-afternoon.

Under the dumbest load, our custom made gaming evaluation, made the P10 Plus screen conk out at three and a half hours while the P10 managed to get to just under 3 hours. Exactly the same pattern appeared with all our video playback evaluation, where the P10 Plus operated a impressive nine 5 an hour and the P10 knocked it out of the playground using over 11 hours. Again, this is because of the smaller lower resolution display, in the event the very best possible battery life is exactly what you're after with the P10, you may have to reconsider how badly you want a larger, 2K display.

Luckily, charging up both telephones is a cinch using the comprised Supercharger brick and cable. Naturally, for the best results you should always use the charger which came in the container, with the bonus being a nearly half full battery in an half an hour. However, both Yedi and me personally also used routine Quick Charge 3.0 charging bricks along with other USB Type-C wires, though inherently this combination wasn't as fast as Huawei's favorite solution. That said, neither of us ever felt any anxiety about battery charge levels while using the P10 and P10 Plus. Despite having Yedi's high resolution display, he was comfortably seeing out the day and the Full HD P10 I had enough to spare day's end.

Huawei's battery powered optimizations have been really great for a little while and the additional benefit of this Supercharger just goes much further towards putting the business near the top of the heap where pound-for-pound battery life is concerned. Ofcourse there is also the usual bevy of battery saving styles, either from Huawei and those who come as a part and parcel of Android Nougat to help manage your energy intake according to your own particular needs and habits.

And finally, EMUI -- the Huawei Android iteration that has seen quite a few variations in the past couple of generations, many recently adding an option for a program drawer. With the P10, EMUI still comes with a remarkably large amount of customization features which allow it to be one of the most robust versions of Nougat which we've seen up to now. Unfortunately, there is still a lot of naturally app duplication going on.

Out of the box, you're going to get the Huawei P10 lacking any program drawer, but that can be easily added from the settings directly off the bat. As far as the display can be involved, there is a blue light filter for all those late night mobile sessions, filled with scheduled start and stop times, and also a colour wheel for correcting the P10 display's fever to your liking.

As stated earlier, you may select from traditional on-screen fingerprint or buttons scanner gestures for navigation. But there's also a floating navigation bubble that can replace on-screen buttons or supplement the scanner gestures. In the event you want onscreen buttons, then you can even rearrange their order into your own liking, for example adding an extra button for pulling the notification colour down without needing to reach up to the surface of the screen.
